Trying to Play...Has Buddy Sour Gone too Far?

[1] A new mare has joined the herd! She is 17 [QH] in great physical condition [except her feet, she is getting them trimmed next week :] and she holds her own against the boy's messing with her. And of course the boys will follow her anywhere! Anything i can do to help reduce the Buddy Sour in Fuller to help us play longer/better? Sometimes Fancy [mare] will trot/gallop off out of fun; my horse panics therefore I have no choice but to let him go and our play session is ended right there.

He lifted his feet!

Ok first off-- I know it has been FOREVER since I have posted on here, but that doesn't mean that we havn't been playing!! We have now started on the Driving Game and the only things left we have concerning the Porcupine Game are lifting and lowering his head. What I am so excited about is that he lifted his feet for me to pick them out! I am sure that this doesn't seem a big deak to you, but I havn't picked up his feet in weeks [maybe as many as x6!!] waiting for our relationship to improve.

Great Day Using My NEW--HOMEMADE Carrot Stick :)

(See the post below to see pictures and a better discription :). Anyways, I went outside, hater and my new carrot stick in hand :). I caught my horse who was a teensy bit wary of the CS at first, then he began to graze, so I thought "Well since he is relaxed enough to eat---he's calm enough to play the Porcupine Game [#2] with the CS instead of my hand (what he's been taught on) right?" Wrong. I don't remember which time it was [the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd try], but he began to walk fowards and then he bucked.

Short Play Session :)

Well today, I noticed my mom outside with the horses. So I thought why not? Well I slid on my boots and it was very windy. I haltered Fuller, did a quick "Friendly Game" session, then I moved on the "The Porcupine Game". I only worked on reveiwing the game on the hips, not the face or chest quite yet (that would have taken longer, and I was getting cold!). I did it until he was responsive in moving in small steps (the goal of the game is to be able to move his hindquarters 360 degrees).

Homemade Carrot Stick....

In the making!!! I will post pictures when it's finished :) I'm even painting it orange haha! Check back tomorrow :)

Fuller & his owner :)

**Update**

Not quite finished yet--going to sand it down--repaint and then sand it down again :)

**UPDATE**

It's FINISHED!!!!!!!! [I worked out the knots in the rope don't worry] I used it with my amazing horse yesterday and had a GREAT time :)

the Hackamore vs the Halter

I know I have posted more entries about questions than about me & my horse, but it's been rainy and I have a cold :(. Anyways, I really see no difference between the halters and the hackamores that Parelli offers--is the hackamore a recommended tool or just a luxury--thanks :)

What About the Carrot Stick?

Is the carrot stick Required for the Porcupine Game [#2]?? Isn't the whole goal to be able to do this with your hands? And, also, has anyone ever built your own carrot stick? I am attempting to do this as I don't have $60 to spend on one from the Parelli Store.

Need Help Please :)

After a while of "playing", my horse dives for grass and it's frustrating. We are on the Porcupine Game (#2) and he does well when he's focusing, but when he's going for grass, it takes him forever to repsond, is it ok for me to gently redirect his thoughts by stopping him from eating or should I just work through it? Thanks :)
