Liberty out in the open with Pip

Pip ~ October 13, 2010

Liberty ~ 1 hour

Fun fun fun!!  We started out On Line doing small circles and asking Pip to curve around the circle, ie being straight on the circle.  She really did well with this.  It's not easy for her, but she started to curve a bit.  :)

Then I took the halter off and played with the cones.  We did a standard weave at the walk out in our open play area.  It was so cool.  Pip loves to stomp on the cones, so that was a little tricky, but it was funny.

Peaks and Valleys with Pip

Pip ~ October 12, 2010

Liberty ~ 30 minutes

We took it slow today.  Pip was doing really well, and quite calm.  There were four barrels in the round pen, so I lined them up like a weave on the rail.  At the trot, we were able to do a perfect weave pattern.  It was so so so cool!!  I love it!

We are in a valley

Liberty ~ 45 minutes

Pip and I started out reviewing our latest concepts.  She was doing wonderful.  So we headed out into the pasture to play some stick to me and Figure 8.  The stick to me was wonderful.

But the Figure 8 was a little rough.  At the walk was great, but at the trot, we didn't get it.  Pip took off.  She cantered off, head and tail up in the air.  Totally RB.  Jeez.

2 Liberty sessions with Pip

Pip ~ October 8 and 10, 2010

Liberty ~ 30 minutes each

Wonderful Liberty with Pip!

Pip ~ October 6, 2010

On Line and Liberty ~ 1 hour

We messed around on the 45 foot line.  She backed up well, went sideways pretty nicely too.  She wasn't very sensitive quite yet, but I know that with some time, we will get there.

Daisy doesn't like to canter

Daisy ~ October 6, 2010

On Line and Liberty ~ 1 hour 15 minutes

Daisy and I started out On Line.  We did lots of circles and movement.  Our focus was to canter 2 laps.  She took a bit of convincing to the right, but not too bad.  I haven't quite figured out what her effective send is, but we are getting closer.  She won't yet canter 2 laps after trotting a couple of laps. Need a better send!

Freestyle for Pip and Online for Daisy ~ 1 hour 30 minutes

Trimming the girls

Pip and Daisy ~ October 3, 2010

Trimming

I trimmed Pip and Daisy's back hooves.  Neither one stood very well for me.  Which is very odd because for our previous farrier, they stood perfectly...

But I'm learning all the time on how to trim them better and how to make it more comfortable for all three of us.  I am loving Jaime Jackson's books!!

Play (or trim) on,

Walk with both girls

Hitting the trails!

Pip ~ September 30, 2010

Freestyle ~ 3.5 hours

Sally, Nita Jo Rush and I loaded up to Crow Hassan State Park and hit the trails!  Since Pip and I were still 'recovering' from the body work session, we couldn't canter, but Pip sure did want to!!  Her limp was almost gone, except for at a fast trot.

Pip always wants to be in front.  She gets so impulsive.  But she is only that way with other horses.  When we hit the trails alone, she is more LBI.  Interesting...!

Aftermath of the body work session

Pip ~ September 28, 2010

Online and Freestyle ~ 30 minutes

We have been instructed to take it real easy for the next couple of days, just to allow Pip's body to absorb the bodywork session.  So we just did some walking and trotting circles.  I asked her to lengthen and shorten her walk, and to move different zones.  Anything to make it a bit more interesting.

Pip has EPM

Pip ~ September 27, 2010

Bodywork session ~ 4 hours

My friend Kristi came over today to help Pip with her limp.  She took one look at Pip and asked if she had EPM.  I have had this asked once before ~ last summer.  But after talking to a few different vets and other professionals, we dismissed it.  But hearing it again, I think we had better look into it.

We seem to be stuck.

Pip ~ September 22, 2010

Finesse ~ 1 hour

After warming up a bit On Line and Freestyle, we took up the contact.  Pip has gotten really good at the walk.  I can ask for everything but a haunches in with lots of success.  She is light when I ask her to do a shoulder in, leg yeild, go 45 degrees off the fence, and swing the shoulders.  Everything just feels good.

Kids + Daisy = ADORABLE

Daisy ~ September 25, 2010

On Line ~ 1 hour

The neighbor kids love horses, and have a few of their own, but they don't have ponies.  The oldest is interested in Parelli, so I am starting to teach her a bit with Daisy.  It is perfect because Daisy needs more play time, and since she is playing in L4, she is great for these kids to learn with.

Emotional Fitness

Pip ~ September 25, 2010

All Savvies ~ 2 hours

On Line and Liberty were just a warm up and review of yesterday's play time.  Pip really did well.  She handled the 3 single barrels better than ever.  We had some great Liberty trailer loading.  She backed up with me even farther away. :D

My focus for today was bending.  We started out with Freestyle, just getting her listening to my seat.  She was very responsive. :)

Wonderful Expression!

Quick Liberty with Pip

Pip ~ September 22, 2010

Liberty ~ 45 minutes

We just had a quick session tonight.  What I found was that I really need to come up with new things for us to play with!  Pip was doing really well with just about everything.  We just stayed in the round pen, so I think it is time that we move into a bigger area and start asking for the same things.

Hitting the trails with both girls

Pip and Daisy ~ September 21, 2010

Pip ~ Freestyle ~ 1 hour 30 minutes

Daisy ~ Online ~ 1 hour 15 minutes

It was so so so gorgeous out yesterday!!  The horses were super excited to head out on the trails.  Pip had wonderful impulsion, a bit of a change from last time we went out.  Daisy was just happy to be along for the ride.

Pony Penning with Pip

Freestyle and Finesse ~ 1 hour 30 minutes

Trail ride with Sally and Rainey!!

Pip ~ September 17, 2010

Freestyle and Finesse ~ 4 hours 30 minutes

Sally pulled in with her 13.3 hh pony, Rainey, and after checking out how Pip was moving we headed out.  (Pip was barely limping!!!!)  Pip and Rainey looked so cute together, both cute pintos.  We headed out to the Sandunes State Forest.

Freestyle with Pip

Pip ~ September 16, 2010

Freestyle ~ 1 hour

My goal today was to get Pip responding off my leg at the trot, instead of reacting.  There are days whenever I apply my leg at the trot, Pip jumps into the canter.  And I CAN'T have that happen in CO!!

Getting better...

Pip ~ September 15, 2010

Liberty and Freestyle ~ 1 hour 30 minutes

Still a little gimpy...

Pip ~ September 13, 2010

On Line ~ 1 hour

Pip is still a little gimpy, but I was talking to one of my good horse buddies, and she said that to get the abcess out faster would be to MOVE her!  So that is what we did.

Diving into a New Subject

Pip ~ Freestyle

Daisy ~ On Line

September 12, 2010 ~ 1 hour 15 minutes

Since Pip is still limping, but it is getting better!!!,   I wanted to ride Pip while playing with Daisy On Line.

It started out pretty well.  Daisy doesn't see me ask her to do anything, she just responds to the carrot stick...  I am not sure if she can truly see me, at least not very well.  Maybe I should just do more of a Zone 5 driving sort of exercise.  At least to start out with.

Trailering with Pip

Pip ~ September 10, 2010

On Line ~ 1 hour 30 minutes

I believe Pip has an abcess, so we are pretty limited to what we can do.  But we can walk, which means we can get into the trailer. Pip is always pretty good about hopping into the trailer, but she isn't super confident about staying in there.  And I realized that it isn't an issue that we have dove into yet.
