Left Brain Extroverts

This group is for anyone who wants to discuss the challeges that come from having to work with our LBE...how to you keep them interested, engaged & learning, all the time trying to make it FUN!

How do you harness that power & play drive & still manage to keep up the relationship?

New Directions

Harmony is bringing together two or more different elements to create something pleasing and balanced. It creates something more than simply the sum of the individual parts.

Out of a harmonious life flows balanced horsemanship. Balanced horsemanship creates harmony between horse and human. In this there is synergy and synchronicity.

Welcome to the new vision and direction of my horsemanship journey. After much deliberation, I have decided it is time for a change. Not simply in the title of my blog but in my horsemanship.

The Parelli 12 foot line...

I ordered my first official Parelli 12 foot line back in December.  I love it...nothing compares as far as quality and functionality.

While going through papers yesterday I ran across the instruction sheet that came with the 12 foot line it reads:  The best rope in the world is not a lead rope...It's a line of communication between you and your horse.

Music and Horses

The current Savvy Times has a great article on rythym with horse and rider.  I have always had a more relaxed ride with music playing in the background.  I think it helps me to relax and therefore relaxes my horse.  On the racetrack I always have a song in my head I can sing or hum while riding and it really helps the horses that are prone to tying up.  I can let them roll right along without cranking down on them and maybe the sound of a voice in melody relaxes them also (even though I am not the best singer).  Anyway, check out this article and get your

Moving on

Harry and I are making great progress. He's really making me think - switching from LBI to LBE in an instant.   I can see how working out a strategy for a particular scenario makes a real difference.

I seem to have cracked his dragging me to the verges when I bring him in from the field - he's been like a little child in a sweet shop. Can't say I totally blame him, the grass on the verges looks very lush compared to the almost bare grass in the paddock.

Pat on FB

I was happy to hear that Winstar Farm, the owner/breeder of Kentucky Derby Winner Super Saver, is adopting some natural horsemanship principles into it's racing operation through Pat and Linda Parelli.  I saw Pat's congratulatory video to Bill Casner, owner of Winstar Farm, on the Parelli Facebook page.

Liberty

Worked with all three of my Thoroughbreds at Liberty today.  If the foundation for the 7 games online is good the transition to liberty is fairly easy. Especially in a large round pen (65 ft.).  All three seemed to catch on quickly.  Time for Auditions ! (Level 1 online...I didn't realize how ready we were until we did so well at Liberty.)  I am really impressed on how fluently the change in direction creates control.  When I sense right brain behavior is beginning...change direction...lip licking begins and control is regained.

Found a "Stick With Me" Partner!

Angel is probably the most sweetest mare I've ever met.  She's a natural follower to those who act natural...(me and my teacher).  She cuddles and nuzzles, sometimes it get's annoying and I have to tell I can't hug/kiss right now! LOL!  She's the kind of horse that'd do anything for you, I think she's more a LBE because she'd do a lot for me without treats.  She even lets me sit beside her when she's lying down! YEAH!

Oh, the wonder of a 3 yr old LBE/RBE......

So, today with all the muck and ice in the yard, my husband, my mom, and I decided to take "the girls" for a walk to dry out. My mom took her 12 yr old, usually LBI, Quarter horse cross, Kota, and my husband Earl took my mustang mare Kiowa (18 yr old LBI). This leaves me with the newest member of the herd, Lily the Nevada estray (mustang). She is a VERY extreme LBE/RBE with some RBI tendancies when she's learning.

Who woulda thought..........

My little 12 h mustang draft cross pony is sooooo LBI and predictable.........WAS.   He has achieved a new level with me :)  He has developed confidence I guess, and now says NO sometimes.......and swings and takes the power position and is gone....FAST.  I was really upset the first time, didn't want him to know he could actually do that 'to me'.  But now I'm thinking .....the proofs in the Liberty.  Take off everything and does your horse want to stay.......NO.  He's barely in L1, he's been a wild horse turned gentle pet for a few years and now his life

Come and Introduce Your Extroverts

I own Jack a 7yo New Forest extrovert.

The thing i love about him is the fact he has a high play drive and it useful for the handy pony competition, currently unbeaten!

Timing

Hi,

Haven't been here for awhile.  Life once again got in the way of what I really want to be doing.  Bear and I were doing great.  Then I had to add hours to my work schedule.  I keep asking myself, why does it always have to be about the money?  I love my horses and want so much to have my horse life.  Then something happens to take my time away to just maintain life.  God seems to have a different plan for me, but what could be more important that these glorious creatures of his?

My first blog entry....

me & magnus.jpg

Hi everyone,

My name is Joy, I'm 26 and hail from Anglesey, North Wales. I've been with horses since before I can remember. And last November I got my very first horse, a now 4 year old Friesian called Magnus, a high spirited LBE (with LBI/RBE tendancies, possibly some RBI too). Unfortunately he has not been gelded yet (he's a cryptorchid/rig) don't know why he wasn't cut as a 1 or 2 yr old by his previous owner (mother-in-law)???

My little mustang filly!

I have always wanted to get a mustang, so I was very excited when the adoption came near us. I had to get a yearling because of the facilities you have to have, and I definitely wanted a filly. My favorite color was bay, but no matter what it looked like (besides good confirmation) I wanted to get a LBE. When we went over to the yearling pens, the first one I saw was a bay filly, much smaller than the others, with soft eyes.

Parelli Patterns Playground Progress

Today, the first horses and their human partners came to play at the Patterns Playground here in Wilton, CA.  What fun!

What concerned me as being too easy, because two of my mares do it so calmly and willingly online, was in fact, a challenge for other horses.  I was thrilled to see how much they loved having the obstacles to play with.  And to watch the horses assess the situations and figure out where to place their feet.

Buster and Me

Buster and I are more than "buds" we are??? I was there when he was born, droped, whatever you want to call it, I watched as his mom laid beside him and rested, licked him and wispered sweetnothings into his ears. I was the first to touch him, hold his head and play with his feet, head, neck, you get the idea.

We had our first ride when he was a day old, me standing over him following mama.

Orphaned at 4 months we had to find a way to grow, not like Bear, my wifes baby, orphaned at 2 weeks, thats her story.

Summit-my wonderful LBE

Summit-my wonderful LBE

This is Summit , my wonderful LBE.  He is the son of my Levels mare.  Whom I adore.

I imprinted Summit at birth.  He has always had Parelli.  Learned his first five games within the first week of birth.  I waited on circle and squeeze till he was older.  What fun he is!

He is very willing, loves to learn and has a wonderful confidence that is so appreciated.  He has been a joy to start under saddle, usually learning something new is not an issue for him.

The pistol pony

I have a 5 yr.old, adorable, white(grey) Welsh/Shetland pony named Snowy...but who should be called Pistol or Rocket or NASCAR or something else implying tremendous speed.  He is sweet and friendly and mouthy like a toddler, but with less of an attention span.  I joke that he is ADHD.  Very fun to play with on the ground, fearless and interested in everything.  At playdays when we wait as bigger horses show lots of caution at pedestals or tarps or car-washes or balls or ANYTHING, you can just feel him saying, "Come on, come on, come on, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up,
