Sunday in the Shavings!

It had been raining the past 4 days in the Dallas area. The rain was very much needed for our hay pastures.
Our horses are able to 'run free' most of the time, but Sunday we decided to put them in their stalls. We got new shavings for all three and we justed wanted to hang out with them while it was porring outside. So, I went from stall to stall and wanted to spend some time with each horse. I was sitting bareback on our little (14h) paintmare Jada. Her ears went back and forth to see what I wanted, but I was just enjoying being a passenger... I went to Copper and gave her an ear treatment (she has allergies and always dry ears) and just loved on my beautiful mare. While I was in her stall, Cado, my boyfriends gelding layed down in the next stall and that was very unusual, while he is "Alpha" and never did that before. I guess he just enjoyed our 'low energy' hanging out and he wanted to take advantage of his 'fresh, new bed'. I wanted to be next to him so bad, but I was not sure, if he would let me. While he is LBI I approached him slowly, did not look at him at all, while eye contact is already pressure for him. It worked! He did not get up. I sat next to him, petting his leg and his shoulder. I moved easy when I changed my positions. I layed next to him for a while, facing his head and after a while I 'suggested' with the way I touched his head and then neck, to lay completely down, and like in slow motion, he layed his head down next to me. That was the coolest thing ever! Here we were, laying head on head in his stall, in the shavings. I could feel his breath, and it was just amazing to lay infront of this giant. It was such a huge accomplishment for me! My boyfriend was watching us the whole time, while sitting in a chair across his stall. I saw his smile and I know as much as I want to be able to do that with my mare Copper, he wants to do it with his horse Cado! Next time!
