Oh, the wonder of a 3 yr old LBE/RBE......

So, today with all the muck and ice in the yard, my husband, my mom, and I decided to take "the girls" for a walk to dry out. My mom took her 12 yr old, usually LBI, Quarter horse cross, Kota, and my husband Earl took my mustang mare Kiowa (18 yr old LBI). This leaves me with the newest member of the herd, Lily the Nevada estray (mustang). She is a VERY extreme LBE/RBE with some RBI tendancies when she's learning. She has been a huge test for me, which is why I liked her. I wanted a challenge and a horse that was the opposite of Kiowa...be careful what you wish for!

So,  as we are leaving the driveway, there is a huge patch of ice to be manuevered. Now, Kiowa and Kota both carefully pick their way to the far left where there is less ice and plod along happily without help or incident. Lily, on the other hand, must walk directly across the middle to investigate why no one wanted to go there. Luckily, I have learned that she almost always need the 22' line and had it on her so  I allowed her the room to explore without impeding her. What followed was a scene straight out of Bambi....only 15hh and 1000 lbs of 3 yr old mustang instead of a little 50lb fawn! Her feet went in four different directions and she started scrambling to the side. She never did go all the way down, but it was close! You could almost see the smiles on Kiowa and Kota as they watched her. Kids!
