Barefoot

My personal Parelli journey went further and I applied the idea of being natural with the horse also having my horses barefoot as much as possible.

As much as possible means that whenever I have to protect the hooves I use hoofboots.

What about your journey of having your horses barefoot or maybe thinking about to have them barefoot.

Let's exchange some experiences about it.

I am doing the trimming by myself and I have the chance to apply also on other horses, but it is not my profession (yet) :-)

OUR Barefoot journey began very unusual as our farrier advised to remove the ironshoes as this would have helped to recover the structures of the hooves of our horses. He stopped being a farrier and I did not found a good barefoot trimmer so that I was "forced" to do it by myself and to get more information and knowledge about it. That was app. 3 years ago. Now that I am used to trim our horses feet I found a good barefoot trimmer and we exchange knowledge and opinions. So another additional journey started.

How interesting.....

I've only owned this mare since March 2011. So we are just starting to get to know each other. This mare was out of control when I got her. She would chase her previous owner out of the round pen. She had learned to blow up when she would not understand what was being asked of her. Then she quickly fiqured out that this solved the problem, because, the problem, ...her people, would leave her alone.

Farrier School

I recently had a discussion with one of my horsemanship students who is due to graduate soon.   He expressed a strong desire to go to farrier school before moving on with his college education.  We've looked at several schools, but haven't decided on one yet.   If any one has advice or tips on a particular school or on farrier schools in general I'd love to hear from ya at

Going Barefoot

I teach horsemanship at a school for at risk teens.   I have several of my own horses plus nearly 30 head at the school.   I'm very interested in going in the "barefoot" direction and I'll be looking for tips in the future.  You can check out my blog at http://www.haltershorsetack.com for more interesting horse stuff.

What is the number one thing you must watch for with barefoot horses?

barefoot Parelli

Hi,  I finally took the front shoes off my two horses last summer.  One the TB, had had a lot of shoeing and foot problems.when younger and was still difficult to keep shoes on.  His feet were completely 'flat' underneath, but 6 months later are getting somewhere near to that beautiful shape of the wild horsehoof.  The horses are out all year on 30 acres, which has really helped in the 'transition' back to natural feet.  Would love to exchange experiences of trimming with anyone in Ireland.  I'm in Dublin myself.

All The Little Pennies

For the last couple years every time I had some spare change I threw it in a jar.  The jar turned into five jars, then a half gallon apple juice jug, then another.  I'd taken change out on days when I was starving as a college student and needed a few bucks to go to the store.  I'd also taken out enough money to buy a pair of jeans once!  So, with that in mind, I figured I had enough to open a small savings account.

Update on Painted Dreams

Ok, 3 foals this year, two black and white colts, one bay and white colt (now gelding).  Lovely boys, and I'm proud as punch.

Cadbury is going well, Cougar is 100% sound and bred like a star, all 5 mares covered are in foal for this year.

Survivied the floods, very sad for some families, we are doing our best for donations as we were also affected.  Two of our horses for sale will have half of their sale money donated for the flood victims, and have donated a service for a service auction.

I loveParrelli.

Once a human always a human

Hello everybody. I would like to share how I took my horse for a walk this morning, left my savy at the barn and almost ended up bear lunch. My horse and I recently moved from South Florida to the Catskills Mountains in New York State.  I am in love, with the change of seasons, the farmers markets, the beautiful scenery, I love it all. My horse is also in love, she went from being in a little barn in the city being turned out for a couple of hours a day to living outdoors on acres of pasture and with a herd.

New Sharer

Hi to the Parelli community!

My name is Debi and I've been doing PNH for almost 3 years now with my two thoroughbred mares and three kelpies!

I compete with my dogs in agility (showjumping for dogs) almost every weekend and try to get out and about with my horses too!

I have a 12yo fleabitten mare, Mia who is RBE predominantly but does have RBI & LBI tendencies and my 8yo bay mare, Bonnie is predominantly LBI with RBI tendencies.

Level 1 Assesment

Hi.

On Saturday, I did my level 1 Assesment. It has been such a long time (about a year and a half) since I got my dad to record me doing parelli. I had my mum Asses it for me. From what my mum had to do in her days, I have passed with excellence! I am just so happy with my little man, espesally (sorry, I am aa REALLY  bad speller) when he put all four hooves on 'his' pedastool!

New Parelli levels

Can I get some feedback on the new Pareli levels.  I have the old, and am thinking about buying the new levels, but they are expensive.  Is it worth the investment, how different are they from the previous Parelli levels.

thank you

Using the power of Parelli to overcome ADD

In 2005 I had the job of riding horses other people deemed "un-ridable" or who had not been ridden in a long time. I was a traditionaly trained English rider.

Around this time I bought Jimmi (whom my old trainer paired me with.) The grey half-arbian was nine at the time but was a reject among  people. His LBE tendencies made him difficult to work with. I was fourteen at the time, and I was the first rider he had in years.

Under the recommendation of my trainer, I bought him with allowance money I saved up to buy a horse of my own.
