Time Flies... ~ Lily's Log #35
....when you're having fun! I have been so busy trying to get in as much time as possible with my girls before I go back to the reality of working 40 hours a week, I haven't had time to write!
I am also teaching a Horses for the Spirit class once a week, so free time is not something I have a lot of. The kids are challenging, but wonderful. They are foster kids that have attachment and boundary issues complicated by the majority suffering from the consequences of Fetal Alchohol Syndrome. This has resulted in them being considered "unadoptable". We are having them play games with the horses to help learn these life skills and, hopefully, help them find permanent homes with loving families.
Things have been amazing with the horses. Lily is doing better every day. She amazes me with how smart and sensitive she is. She even learned to sideways towards me using nothing but a foam pool noodle to cue her! She had her first bath ....ever!.... and she loves rolling after! Her rollback game is getting more and more animated, as she has learned each time we change direction there is room for play and self-expression. I can't wait to get her under saddle and play in a new savvy!
Kiowa....my perfect partner. She helped with the Parelli demo at the Region 3 Arabian Show and was a magnificent ambassador for both Parelli and her breed. Her liberty on the first day was spot-on...the horse I wish I had for my spotlight last year! I'm so proud of her and all she has done. Just a few days ago, I took her for a walk, on-line, of about 3.5 miles (little over 5K)....just the two of us. She has never, ever gone that far from home without another horse or going in the trailer. It was so special to have that time together, just the two of us.
So....that's my update for now. I have the follow-up x-ray with my orthopedic doctor to make sure my fracture is completely healed, then it's back to work. Back to normalcy. But with a new found appreciation for how spectacular my relationship with my horses really is.
