A little break through
Yesterday jack and i went for a wander up the lane as per farriers orders. since jack had laminitis his feet have been growing really well and coming through at a nice angle but the part of the hoof that was laminitic now needs to be worn away and the best way for us to do that is long walks on a harder surface.
so i kept our main aim relaxation but jack actually set out in a nice walk, it was energetic, his head was level and not too high and his back was strong and flowing not hollow. on our way home we called in on bobby and the boys had fun running around the field together, they havent seen each other for a couple of months over the winter so they enjoyed playing together.
today im in work this afternoon so i played with jack in the field on our relaxation. we started on the follow the rail pattern and he struck off in a really relaxed powerful walk which made me really excited. when we went into the trot it was relaxed for a couple of strides then his head started coming up and his pace got faster. we stuck at it and i let him stay in the trot whilst bent for a little way down the fence but i kept running out of room. i dont have a school so i have to ride in the field which is nice but there are limited fence lines that have an uninterrupted run. so when this happened a couple of times i tried circling around a log but keeping him bent to the outside when he started tensing up. this seemed to work better because i could keep going on the circle until he relaxed, which he did! we were on a small circle around the log and after one and half laps he did a big blow out and we stopped there.
im really proud of how jack is doing and i cant wait until he can be this relaxed in the canter :)
